Ketamine infusion is recommended for patients with treatment-resistant depression, or depression that does not respond adequately to appropriate courses of at least two antidepressants.
Treatment with ketamine can also provide rapid relief in mood disorders such as Major Depression Disorder, Bipolar Depression, Post-Partum Depression, Obsessive Compulsive Disorder and Post Traumatic Stress Disorder. In addition, ketamine is effective in the treatment of suicidal ideation.
Ketamine is also effective for chronic pain, including but not limited to fibromyalgia, CRPS, phantom limb pain, migraines and nerve pain. Whereas opioids (such as morphine or hydrocodone) can actually worsen the pain with time (opioid induced hyperalgesia), ketamine helps reverse this. At Tennessee Ketamine Clinic we combine ketamine with the infusion of additional medications found to be beneficial in chronic pain.
Last but not least, ketamine is used for rapid detoxification from chronic opioid use.
Ketamine is very safe, but may be unsuitable in patients with certain conditions including: allergy to ketamine, uncontrolled hypertension, pregnancy, visual or auditory hallucinations.
